Professional Development as Online Learning is an introduction to the preliminary results of a research project at the University of Westminster, developed by Helen Pokorny, Federica Oradini, and Ana E. Carballo between April and July 2014.

The project focused on an analysis and evaluation of the online delivery of the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PG Cert HE), delivered online since 2011. All participants and graduates of the PG Cert HE are active teachers in Higher Education.

Brief summary

The project focused on an in-depth analysis and evaluation of the delivery of the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, delivered online. We surveyed graduates of 2011/12, 2012/13 and the first semester of 2013/14. The research focused on both students and staff involved on these courses.

The aim of the report is firstly, to evaluate the success of the Pg Cert HE award in terms of student satisfaction and the impact it has had on the participants’ professional development and practice as teachers in HE. Secondly, we wish to learn from the experiences of participants and tutors on the course in order to improve our own practice as online educational developers, and to share these lessons with other colleagues who may find them beneficial in their own practice.
